Well, we'd better have a corker of a summer because spring is being outright miserable. The wind and rain have continued nearly uninterrupted, and it is rather cold. Still, we've eaten our first artichoke for the year. Barbs says to me "It's been ages since we had an artichoke! I said yes. A year...

  1. I often think that year round access to just about any fresh food we want has destroyed our appreciation for seasonal fruit and veggies.

    1. We are very seasonal in diet. Asparagus mean a lot when you see them for a few weeks, and they're very few - I look forward to having enough for real 'get sick of them' feed. I' really looking forward to our first fresh tomatoes :-) - an idea most people never think of - the last came to table in June. My success at getting to them the same time as my lettuce is very small, though.

  2. Your weather sounds just like ours, despite being the other end of the year. I have a hole in my front bed and need to find time to choose and plant spring bulbs.

    1. What are you putting in? (Flinders seems the right spot for a lot - the daffs along the road are pretty impressive.)

  3. crocus, daffodil and tulip, probably. I'm going off to buy bulbs with my sister tomorrow (Saturday) after which I'll have a better idea. Buying tulip bulbs for my garden is interesting, to say the least, because I try to avoid red flowers. I get a lot of wild poppies (orange), evening primrose (yellow), Canterbury bells (blue and white), foxglove (white and purple), lupin (blue) and bachelor buttons (blue), all of which are volunteers. You do know the difference between weeds and volunteers, don't you? It's quite simple. If you like them, they're volunteers. If you don't, they're weeds.

I am not a gardener by inclination. I eat very few vegetables (I would never ask you to cook for me) and I'm allergic to just about every pollen in existence. However, it's very good exercise, and having just lost 18 pounds, any exercise that makes me feel productive rather than bored is good exercise.
